Hui Hui has a truly inspirational story to tell

Hui Hui is a senior Greyhound that was on death’s doorstep before she was rescued by an organization, that saved her from the butchers block in Mudanjian, China. Hui Hui was injured during transport which included living in a cage, stuffed with more then 10 other dogs. She traded the cage, for life in the U.S. and her story is quite remarkable.

During the Yulin dog meat festival in China, the International Humane Society estimates that upwards of 10,000 dogs are slaughtered for their meat. Practitioners of this sick festival believe in a depraved ritual that the longer the animals are tortured, the better tasting the meat will be. This gives them impetus to subject these poor dogs to brutality that can not be spoken of.

Rescuers aren’t sure of Hui Hui’s background or where she came from however, Steven Anderson of 4 Greyhound Racers says: “There is the possibility she could have been sold to the dog meat market after being used for hunting or breeding. However, she could also very well have been someone’s pet, as many of the dogs that are slaughtered are pets that are stolen from their owners.”

The adorable Hui Hui was brought, along with other dogs to the Tangshan City Small Animal Protection Association, where her leg injury was assessed. The organization helps facilitate the adoption of pets stolen from meat consumption, and helps them find loving homes. Dogs with injuries are often unadaptable in China. They knew that her only chance was to move west, and soon after, a fundraiser was commissioned to help send her to the United States.

Thanks to the generosity of total strangers, Hui Hui will be transported to the U.S. on September 30, 2015, where she will be fostered by Yu Hang, who is presently in China. Mr. Hang will travel with the pup, to help ease her transition to her new foster family in the U.S. that anxiously awaits her arrival.

Once Hui Hui is in her foster home in the U.S., they will assess her behavior to see how well she adjusts to her new environment. They want to make sure she is well enough, and has healed before she can be officially adopted. Mr. Anderson of 4 Greyhound Racers hinted that there was some ways to go: “Our group, 4 Greyhound Racers, is foster-based so Hui Hui will be with one of our foster families when she arrives in Chicago.

From there, she will have her leg further evaluated and hopefully rehabilitated. Then, after she recovers, she will be homed through our adoption program. A lot will depend on what is wrong with her leg, if and how much we can do to help mend it, and how long the recovery takes.” 4 Greyhound Racers has a highly successful so it is more than likely if she heals 100%, she will find a home.
